Tottenham 5 - 0 Newcastle

Well, what is there to say? You've seen the headline. 5-0. You don't usually see that kind of score unless there's been some shockingly awful defending, and that was certainly the case today. I'm already over this loss, and I'm writing this in the 72nd minute. It's not that it doesn't hurt - of course it hurts, Norm. The trouble is that we should have seen this coming a mile away. I'm not trying to make excuses. Yes, Tiote, Cabaye, Ryan Taylor, and some others were unavailable, and yes, I picked Spurs to win. But here we were talking out in public about possibly qualifying for the Champions League as if it were an eventuality and not just a dream. You mean to tell me you didn't expect to be served a heaping helping of humility?

Star-divide

Seriously, though, one major difference between Newcastle and the true contenders for the Champs League is that the Toon are still capable of producing a shocker like this one on any given Saturday. Part of that is a lack of familiarity with being a favorite most weeks, and part of it is a lack of depth. I feel like a broken record. I would love it - looooove it - if the team would give me a reason not to talk about depth after a match for once. But there's no depth, so they won't. I do question the selection. Perch has been better than we've given him credit for when he's been forced to defend, but he's not a midfielder. You know who is a midfielder? Dan Gosling. So is Haris Vuckic, but for some reason Pardew sent him away on loan 2 days ago as if he didn't realize that he would need players today. Even Peter Lovenkrands would have seemed a better option.

In any case, a lack of depth didn't give up 5 goals, but it sure didn't help. Neither did Williamson, Simpson, Coloccini, or Santon. This match was over 4 minutes in, and now we've got 2 weeks to stew on it. Awesome.

Sunderland 1 - 2 Arsenal

Fulham 2 - 1 Stoke City

Thomas Sorensen's bad luck gave Fulham their winning goal, but Martin Jol was full of praise for the man he signed to replace Bobby Zamora, Pavel Pogrebnyak, who opened the scoring on his debut and was a constant threat until he went off with an ankle injury after an hour.

The Russian international fitted in seamlessly, having met his team-mates only on Thursday after signing from Stuttgart, and fired home from 15 yards after controlling John Arne Riise's drive into box after 16 minutes. Twelve minutes later, Clint Dempsey's superb 30-yard shot rebounded off the crossbar to hit the Stoke goalkeeper, Sorensen, and go in off his back. It turned out to be the winning goal, Ryan Shawcross pulling one back for the visitors, who have now lost four successive league matches, 12 minutes from time.

Jol said: "He worked well and was fit. We don't have a lot of No9s at this club and he was keen to start. That was a positive thing and it meant Clint could play in his [favoured] position. You always have to wait and see how somebody will do when they come from abroad. In the first 10 minutes or so he realised that this was a different league to what he is used to."

The Stoke manager, Tony Pulis, had a different view on Pogrebnyak, and believed he could have been sent off for a clattering challenge on Wilson Palacios. "Last week we had Robert Huth sent off for a challenge where he is going in and has pulled his two feet away and had both feet facing the ground," he said. "We have seen a challenge from the Russian lad on Palacios where he catches Wilson on the knee. The referee didn't see it.

"The kid doesn't even get a yellow card. The inconsistency this season is poor. I am disappointed. Last week we had a player sent off. This week, for a worse challenge, the lad doesn't even get a yellow card."

Swansea City 2 - 3 Norwich City

The Norwich City captain Grant Holt scored twice in the second half as Paul Lambert's side came from behind to claim a thrilling victory and climb to eighth in the Premier League table.

Norwich enjoyed the better of the opening half, but trailed at the interval after Danny Graham coolly slotted in the opener from Nathan Dyer's pass in the 23rd minute. But Norwich were ahead within six minutes of the restart as Holt's header deflected in off Ashley Williams and Anthony Pilkington's strike ricocheted in off Neil Taylor, with Holt slotting the third from a tight angle just after the hour mark.

Holt marred his performance by giving away a late penalty for pulling back Williams, Graham converting, but Norwich survived a series of frantic Swansea attacks to become only the second side, after Manchester United, to beat the Welsh club on their own turf this season.

Norwich settled the better of the two sides, pressing high up the pitch and enjoying some joy with Simeon Jackson running at Angel Rangel down the Swansea right. Williams made a timely intervention to deny Jackson an easy finish after Adam Drury had got in around the back.

However, it was Swansea who took the lead against the run of play in the 23rd minute. Gylfi Sigurdsson linked well with Dyer and the winger played in Graham for the striker to score his 11th goal of the season.

Norwich's best chance of the half fell to Andrew Surman, but the midfielder's diving header from Pilkington's brilliant cross was straight at Michel Vorm.

Swansea should have doubled their lead just before half-time after Dyer and Scott Sinclair had teed Graham up for a tap-in, only for Elliott Ward to brilliantly deny the striker.

But Norwich turned the game on its head as they grabbed two goals within six minutes of the restart. Firstly, Holt headed in via a deflection off Williams after Surman had done well to keep Martin's skied attempt at a volley in play on the byline.

And another deflection helped the visitors claim their second as Elliott Bennett teed up Pilkington, who saw his shot strike Neil Taylor, who had put through his own net in Swansea's last home game against Chelsea, and deceive Vorm to put the visitors in front.

At the other end Steven Caulker struck the post from a Sigurdsson corner between the two goals, while Sinclair was guilty of a poor headed miss from a Dyer centre.

But Swansea were being overrun, and when they conceded possession in midfield Bennett made the most of a three-on-two situation to feed Holt for the striker to beat Vorm from a tight angle.

Kyle Naughton then came with inches of making it 4-1 as his rising angled drive was tipped on to the bar by a full-stretch Vorm.

Having done so much to put his side in control Holt then needlessly gave away a penalty for pulling back Williams, with Graham scoring from the spot to set up a tense final few minutes.

But the striker could not complete his hat-trick as he skewed wide in stoppage time before Ruddy brilliantly denied Caulker's point-blank header to seal the victory.

Everton 2 - 0 Chelsea

Bolton Wanderers 1 - 2 Wigan Athletic
