Manchester United 2 - 0 Stoke City

David Pizarro irá cedido al Man.City

FA Cup Brighton 1 - 0 Newcastle United

As feared, Fabricio Coloccini didn’t make the starting line-up with James Perch filling in.

Alan Pardew though followed up with his pre-match comments by playing a full strength team from those available. He also kept the same formation with Shola through the middle and Best on the left, Ben Arfa on his right. Alternating between 4-5-1 when defending and a 4-3-3 when going forward.

Brighton started with numbers behind the ball and credit to United because the home crowd struggled to get going as Newcastle dominated possession.

The first half hour saw the away side keep the ball without creating a shedload of chances, though Best had two decent chances. One he did well to turn and slip it just past the post, while the other was a headed chance which he should have put away after Shola nodded it back across goal.

Any scares were self-inflicted as a couple of times Newcastle gave the ball away as half-time approached but in truth Krul didn’t even had to get his knees dirty.

The second-half unfortunately continued as the first one ended, very little quality or action in the box as Brighton kept their shape and showed little enterprise.

The match was decided on two incidents, sadly neither went in our favour.

With the match seemingly heading unerringly for a replay, Will Buckley picked up the ball in his own half and just got a touch which luckily/unluckily went through Simpson’s legs.

Cabaye tracked over and showed the Brighton player the outside but unfortunately gave him a bit too much space. His low shot was deflected off Williamson who had turned his back and Krul had little chance.

Minutes later at the other end, pressure paid off as Cabaye found space on the edge of the box only for the ball to be clearly charged down with his hands by Giles Barnes for the home team.

No penalty decided the referee and that was just about that.

The officials didn’t do us any favours and we can claim a succession of lucky breaks (some would call them errors/mistakes) led to their sole chance and subsequent goal but…

The team as a whole seemed to largely go through the motions after the opening half hour, with them thinking at worst we would be taking them back to St.James’ Park.

To be fair, watching the match I thought the same but at the same time I don’t get paid tens of thousands of pounds to try and decide the match one way or another.

Best and Ameobi were absolutely shocking for the last hour of the match and their movement and football intelligence were non-existent. I can’t believe we will persevere with either of them once this season has ended.

Out of the cup but still everything to play for in the league, nothing else but three points will do on Wednesday night.

Sunderland 1 - 1 Middlesbrough

FA Cup Arsenal 3 - 2 Aston Villa

FA Cup Hull City 0-1 Crawley Town

There were, Steve Evans said, no great celebrations after Crawley Town advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the second consecutive season. His League Two promotion contenders arrived here expecting nothing less and, if anything, were disappointed not to have won by more than the second-half goal by their prolific leading scorer Matt Tubbs.

Evans has never been a man afraid of blowing his own trumpet, but, on this occasion, he spoke nothing but the truth. His team looked as though they knew exactly what they were doing from the opening whistle and the extent to which they dominated was remarkable.

"Since the draw was made, we did our homework, watching reserve games as well as the first team, and we played some great stuff," Evans said. Having hoped to get another chance against Manchester United, where they lost in the fifth round last season, he acknowledged he would be happy to draw Liverpool or Chelsea this time around.

Nick Barmby, who made seven changes to the Hull side who beat Reading in their last Championship outing, was gracious in defeat. "All credit to Crawley, they played well and we were beaten by the better team," said the former England international. "We didn't get the ball down and pass, but I don't want to take anything away from Crawley – they wouldn't let us."

The first 40 minutes was something of an embarrassment for the home supporters, who saw Crawley dominate possession. Tubbs, with an overhead kick, Tyrone Barnett and Sanchez Watt all went close, while only once did Hull seriously threaten, Robbie Brady's shot just before half-time drawing a diving save from Scott Shearer.

Barmby made changes at half-time, sending on a second out-and-out striker, Aaron McLean, and Tom Cairney immediately went close with a curling shot, but Crawley continued to attack and, on 57 minutes, got the goal that had been coming. Pablo Mills had already forced Vito Mannone to make a diving save when Tubbs beat the offside trap to run on to a long ball from Dannie Bulman down the left, cut into the penalty area and squeezed a sidefooted shot under the City keeper.

Hull almost levelled within two minutes, Shearer flinging himself to his left to palm Richard Garcia's slightly scuffed effort off the line, but Crawley continued to look the stronger side. They almost made the game safe, but Tyrone Barnett saw Joe Dudgeon block his effort on the line and Watt, following up, shot against the outside of the post. Only in the final few minutes did Hull exert any sustained pressure and, even then, Crawley, superbly marshalled by their experienced centre-back pairing of Mills and Claude Davis, never really looked like conceding.

The only negative for Crawley was the dismissal of their assistant manager, Paul Raynor, sent to the stands along with Hull fitness coach Sean Rush after a second-half altercation.

"We said to the boys at half-time, keep your concentration and focus, and a goal will come, and, in the end, it could have been three or four," Evans said. "That's not being condescending to Hull, because this is a Premier League club in the way it's set up. But we had some tremendous passages of football. Players like Tubbs and Kyle McFadzean should be playing at this level and they showed that today."

FA Cup West Bromwich Albion 1-2 Norwich City

Andrew Surman volleyed the Canaries ahead on the stroke of half time after the Baggies had spurned a handful of clear chances.

Shane Long made an immediate impact from the bench, slotting in a penalty after Jerome Thomas had been fouled.

But Morison made it three straight defeats for Albion with his second winning goal in as many league games.

Norwich equalled Blackburn's Premier League record by going 21 games into a season without keeping a clean sheet. But, judging by Canaries manager Paul Lambert's ebullience at the final whistle, it is not a statistic that will be keeping him awake at night.

Only ourselves to blame - Hodgson

Lambert has instilled a confidence that has seen his side amass an impressive 28 points this season.

But Albion were on top from the start at The Hawthorns, Peter Odemwingie signalling their intent with a fizzing drive from 25 yards that Ruddy palmed onto the bar.

The home side came close again when James Morrison unleashed a venomous shot on the half-volley that Surman headed off the line.

In a rare foray forward, Norwich hit the post - more through luck than design - when Ben Foster came racing out to hoof away a loose ball, but the clearance ricocheted off Morison and rolled against the base of the post.

The Baggies, perhaps trying too hard to score, poured forward in increasing numbers. It seemed inevitable they would be caught cold on the counter-attack and that moment came two minutes before the break.
DID YOU KNOW?

Norwich have scored 13 headed goals in the Premier League this season - more than any other team.

Simeon Jackson latched onto a long ball before rolling it into the path of Wes Hoolahan, who picked out Surman in enough space to lash a classy volley beyond Foster.

Just as in their last Premier League outing at Queens Park Rangers, Norwich soaked up the pressure before hitting Albion on the break and the lively Jackson was a constant threat in attack.

But the home side were lifted when Long came off the bench to provide the Baggies with some much-needed firepower.

Striking over with his first touch before creating a clear chance for Simon Cox, Long finally rewarded West Brom for their dominance in the 68th minute.

Stepping up after Daniel Ayala's wild lunge brought down Thomas, Long nonchalantly stroked in from 12 yards, sending Ruddy the wrong way.

Lambert only has eyes on survival

Albion sensed blood and continued to push forward with a series of fraught attacks, pinning Norwich back for extended periods.

But Norwich never panicked, survived the storm, and hit the Baggies with a sucker-punch 11 minutes from the end.

Racing into space down the Norwich left, substitute Grant Holt exposed the home side with a marauding run, before clipping a left-footed cross to Morison, who powered his header past Foster.

Morison reeled away to celebrate in front of the travelling support, who will make the journey to the West Midlands again when the sides are due to meet in the fourth round of the FA Cup on 28 January.

West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson:

"We've done it against Everton, Wigan and now Norwich. We've paid a high price for our inability to finish games off or defend against the counter attack. We've only got ourselves to blame.

"We have to learn the lessons and live through this difficult period. The mistakes were of our own making.

"There is very little I can say to dispel the gloom I feel. There's nothing positive I can say, just hope any fortune falls our way in the next game."

Norwich City manager Paul Lambert:

"We might not win every game, but we certainly make a go of it.

"West Brom came at us strongly in the first half, but our first goal was a classic counter attack and a terrific finish from Surman. Overall, it was great to come away from home and get a win against a well-organised team.

"Morison still had a lot to do with his winning header. It was a terrific goal from a player who's been brilliant for me."

FA Cup Derby County 0-2 Stoke City

FA Cup Stevenage 1-0 Notts County

Stevenage reached the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history after holding off fellow League One side Notts County.

Borough, who had manager Gary Smith in charge for the first time, were deservedly ahead in the 12th minute thanks to Damion Stewart's own goal.

County's Lee Hughes and Alan Judge were denied equalisers by Chris Day.

Darius Charles hit the post for Stevenage, while Judge's low shot was kept out deep into injury time.

It was a game County manager Martin Allen described as a 'million pound tie' with the possibility of a draw against a Premier League side in the next round but they made a slow start.

Stevenage carved out an early chance when winger Luke Freeman latched onto a long ball and crossed for Charles, who fired just over from 12 yards.

But the Magpies did not heed the warning and fell behind in the 12th minute.

Freeman again raced onto a long ball and kept his cool under pressure from Magpies keeper Stuart Nelson and defender Alan Sheehan to squeeze in a shot that Stewart could only turn into his own net as he tried to scramble the ball clear.

The game was held up for five minutes as a shaken Nelson received treatment for a face injury picked up in the goal incident.

Thankfully for the visitors he suffered no lasting injury as he soon had to be at his best to tip away a Michael Bostwick 25-yard strike that was heading for the top corner.

Freeman then hit a fizzing shot that drifted just wide as Stevenage looked the most likely to add to the scoreline.

It was a disappointing first half from the visitors, who finally got a sight of goal 10 minutes before the break when Lee Hughes's close-range header was kept out by Day although the veteran striker was in an offside position.

His strike partner Jonathan Forte, making his debut after joining County on loan from Southampton for the rest of the season, was replaced at half-time by Ishmel Demontagnac after making little impression on his debut.

County came out fired up after the break and went close to an equaliser 10 minutes after the restart when Julian Kelly raced up from fullback to cross for Jeff Hughes but his far-post header was inches wide.

Defender Sam Sodje came off the bench to play upfront with half an hour to go as Allen went all out for an equaliser with three forwards, and the Nigerian went close with his first touch but his header was kept out by Day.

The former QPR keeper then made brilliant saves to deny Judge and Hughes as the visitors dominated possession, but they were almost caught out twice on the break from quick counter-attacks.

Freeman again caused trouble to set up Charles but his shot clipped the outside of the post before Lawrie Wilson raced in on goal only to be denied by the feet of Nelson.

County forced a number of corners late on and went close in the four minutes of injury time when Judge blasted a low shot through a congested penalty box but Day held his shot.

Notts County manager Martin Allen told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I thought we were very average in the first half and in the second half I thought we were absolutely superb, we dominated the game.

"It's a difficult place to come. They're a very powerful, hard working, honest team.

"In the first half they were better than us and in the second half we were definitely better than them but we didn't manage to get that goal to bring them back to Meadow Lane."

FA Cup Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Swansea City

Owen Coyle could be forgiven for feeling sceptical about the supposed benefits of an FA Cup run. Bolton Wanderers' 5-0 semi-final evisceration by Stoke City in April preceded a harrowing run that spanned the majority of 2011 and yet the manager's enthusiasm remains intact. In a meeting of two clubs whose priority is Premier League survival, Wanderers' greater willingness than Swansea City's to target a competition that has displayed a cruelty to them was rewarded with a third successive victory.

Coyle emerged buoyed. "We had a great Cup run last year and we are delighted to progress," he said. After last week's stirring triumph against Liverpool, he believes there is a revival at the Reebok. "It was more than a win," he said. "We were excellent." On a day when stand-ins outnumbered regular starters, it was one of the normal choices, Chris Eagles, who took Bolton into the last 16, courtesy of an error from an understudy, Swansea's reserve goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel. He spilled a shot from one winger, Martin Petrov, into the path of another and Eagles spun to convert the rebound.

"There is no blame attached to him," Brendan Rodgers, his manager, said. "I feel I have the No1 goalkeeper in the Premier League [the rested Michel Vorm] and Gerhard offers support to him. We could have prevented the move."

Yet contrasting approaches were apparent, as he made 10 changes to Coyle's three. One of those Bolton introduced was to play a pivotal part. Darren Pratley spent five years in Wales before opting for Wanderers instead of Swansea in the summer. For much of the subsequent time, it appeared a dreadful decision. While Swansea have been lauded for progressive passing, he has failed to command a place in a losing Bolton team. "Darren's probably been a bit frustrated," Coyle said.

Rodgers said: "Maybe the move hasn't quite worked out how he wanted."

But a reunion had a restorative effect. Pratley's equaliser meant he belatedly opened his Bolton account. Having forged a reputation as a goalscoring midfielder at the Liberty Stadium, he could have had a hat-trick against his old employers.

Separated by eight months, some 250 miles and around 50 yards on the pitch, Pratley's last two goals could scarcely be more different. The common denominator is Swansea. Having scored from his own half for the Welsh club against Nottingham Forest, he struck against them from six yards, heading in Petrov's free kick. A subdued celebration followed. "He was very respectful to his former team-mates and fans, even though they [the supporters] were chanting: 'Pratley, what's the score?'" Coyle said.

Further opportunities to enhance his day arrived. Pratley headed Petrov's cross against the bar and intercepted Ashley Richards's misjudged back-pass, shooting narrowly wide. In addition, Tremmel had made first-half saves from David Ngog and Mark Davies. "There's no doubt we are very deserving winners," said Coyle, who confirmed he has not received, and would not welcome, an offer from Sunderland for his captain, Kevin Davies, but is interested in signing the Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

Swansea had led. Wayne Routledge put the ball in the Bolton net but was deemed offside, a decision Rodgers disputed. Then they scored a legitimate goal with what the manager called a world-class finish. After Luke Moore met Leroy Lita's flick, a blend of pace and power took him past David Wheater, and Adam Bogdan was defeated by a composed finish.

When Swansea trailed, Rodgers sent for reinforcements and they were inches from earning a replay. Danny Graham, who had scored at both ends when they met in October, struck the post. "I felt we deserved something," Rodgers said. Elimination, however, could prove a boon.

FA Cup Sheffield United 0-4 Birmingham

DANNY Wilson is a hopeless footballing romantic, determined to chase every piece of silverware on offer no matter what the dangers or odds.

But Birmingham City’s brutal finishing ended the Sheffield United manager’s love affair with FA Cup competition - for another year at least - and condemned his team to its heaviest defeat of the season.

Chris Hughton’s side arrived at Bramall Lane in form and, having beaten neighbours Wolverhampton Wanderers en route to South Yorkshire, most definitely in the mood.

They departed clutching a ticket in the fifth-round draw too having made a mockery of claims this tie was an upset in the making.

Indeed, such was the ferocity of the visitors’ attacking play, Wilson felt compelled to admire not only the technique but also the timing of their goals.

“Their sharpness going forward was the difference,” he said. “When City got a chance they invariably took it whereas we didn’t.

“But they also scored at crucial times in the match. They scored in periods of the game when we were in the ascendancy and looked as if we were coming back.

“Sometimes you’ve just got to take it on the chin and take your hat off to your opponents.

“I don’t think that was a 4-0 contest. I don’t think that tells the entire story of what went on out there.

“But, equally, we can have no complaints about the fact that City won because they deserved to go through.”

Wilson, writing in his programme notes, described Saturday’s match as a “barometer” of United’s progress in recent weeks.

The final scoreline did not reflect their contribution to an intriguing tie but City’s incisiveness, speed of thought and movement served to remind there is still a considerable gulf in quality between the upper echelons of the Championship and League One.

Scotland international Chris Burke gave United defender Lecsinel Jean-Francois a torrid time along the flanks while Wade Elliott embellished a commanding performance by claiming City’s third after Nathan Redmond had also netted and Adam Rooney converted the first of an impressive brace.

Kevin McDonald, again oozing calm and composure in midfield, impressed for United with Lee Williamson and Matthew Lowton, who struck a post early in the second half, also catching the eye.

“I couldn’t say beforehand put I’ll say it publicly now,” Wilson admitted. “I didn’t want Birmingham City. I’d have rather got Wolves.

“I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way at all but they would have made nine or 10 changes whereas I knew Chris wouldn’t.

“We’ve effectively played his strongest 11 out there.

“But my lads can still take a lot from that game. There are positives there for them without a shadow of a doubt.

“Okay, we’re disappointed to go out. I make no bones about that.

“But performance wise I thought they did ever so well against top-quality opposition.

“They worked Birmingham hard and showed they are a quality team capable of playing some good stuff themselves.”

United started both halves brightly with Lowton and Ched Evans nearly fashioning an early strike when the latter’s decision to step over a low cross came with a whisker of releasing Stephen Quinn.

Evans also tested City’s Colin Doyle with two long-range efforts but a well-worked corner from Jordon Mutch had seen Redmond break the deadlock in between.

Rooney powered the ball into the roof of Steve Simonsen’s net during the closing stages of the first period but United’s spirited resistance meant it was not until the second that things swung decisively in City’s favour.

Williamson forced a fine save from Doyle as United appeared set to reduce the deficit with Lowton hitting the woodwork during the melee which followed and Rich-

ard Cresswell diverting inches wide from another set-piece.

But City strangled their hopes of a comeback when Elliott pounced following an excellent

interchange with Burke and David Murphy created Rooney’s second.

“I was delighted with the clean sheet, the overall display and the goals,” Hughton said. “That was a real team effort and it had to be.

“We had to weather some heavy pressure in certain periods of the game but I thought that once we found our rhythm we were strong and did ever so well.”

FA Cup Blackpool 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

STILL in the hat, granted, but do Sheffield Wednesday really need to chase a place in the FA Cup final?

According to Clinton Morrison, the Owls already have 19 ‘cup finals’ to play between now and the end of the season.

Win every one of those league games and the Owls will be guaranteed automatic promotion to the Championship.

So while it was good to see the team in yesterday’s fifth-round draw, tomorrow’s League One trip to fifth-placed Milton Keynes Dons remains far more important.

Morrison, who was loaned out to the Dons earlier this season, made a rare start against Blackpool as manager Gary Megson rested a number of players.

The striker celebrated his return to the side with a goal that so nearly secured victory for Owls but Kevin Phillips earned a replay with a stoppage-time equaliser from the penalty spot for Blackpool.

“You don’t really want a replay but the FA Cup is a big cup,” he said.

“If we can get through and get a massive team (Wednesday will face Premier League Everton at Goodison Park if they win the replay) it would be good for some of our young players who have never played against a Premiership team.

“It would be a good experience and all the fans still love the FA Cup and deserve it.

“But there are 19 league games to go and they are all cup finals. We can’t slip up and Tuesday’s game is massive for us.”

Now approaching his 33rd birthday, Morrison has never been a player to settle for a place on the bench whether at Coventry City, Birmingham City or on the international stage with the Republic of Ireland.

These days, however, he accepts that he may have to be a support act for the Owls – and is not about to complain.

“Ask any player, they would like to have a bigger role, but the team is doing well at the moment so I don’t expect the manager to change the team,” he said.

“Against Blackpool, I just wanted to say ‘Don’t forget that Clinton is still around.’ I am here to work hard and if I don’t play all the time, so be it.”

Chris O’Grady and Gary Madine both sat on the bench at Bloomfield Road but are now widely regarded as first choices in Wednesday’s attack.

Morrison and Ryan Lowe will keep both men on their toes.

“I’ve done a lot of growing up over the last few months even though I should probably have grown up before,” reflected Morrison.

“It opened my eyes (on loan at Milton Keynes Dons). When you go away and play at another club, you realise how big Sheffield Wednesday is and what the club can be.

“A lot of people thought, when I went on loan, that I didn’t want to be here anymore but I never said that.

“I like it at this club, I’m enjoying my time here, and I want to get a promotion on my CV.

“I am experienced enough now to know that I can still make an impact and help the younger lads coming though like ‘Gaz’ and Chris. They are two young strikers and I have been there.

“I think there have been a few clubs enquiring about me but I think the manager has said he wants to keep me and I am not looking to go.”

Blackpool dominated the early exchanges at Bloomfield Road and Stephen Bywater’s flying save kept out a header from captain Keith Southern.

But the Owls produced some neat football as the first half wore on with Chris Lines and Chris Sedgwick catching the eye.

What they did with the ball may have been simple but it was precise and their passing showed great awareness of other players’ movement.

Striker Ryan Lowe, who had gone close earlier in the game, should probably have scored just before the break but his attempted lob was beaten down by Blackpool goalkeeper Matthew Gilks.

Both sides had made wholesale changes in order to have players fresh for league games tomorrow.

The game was still played in a competitive manner, however, and was watched by Blackpool’s biggest gate of the season.

Former Sheffield United loanees Billy Clarke and Matt Phillips linked up with Kevin Phillips in a three-man attack for Blackpool but were nowhere near their best.

However, the pair still carved out one great opportunity that brought a world class save from Bywater.

The Owls took the lead after 52 minutes thanks to a moment of opportunism from striker Morrison.

Goalkeeper Gilks raced off his line to block at the feet of Lowe but pushed the ball out wide to Morrison.

He curled a superb first time shot over both Gilks and a Blackpool defender before celebrating in style with the Wednesday supporters.

Megson’s reaction to the goal was to remove striker Lowe and send on a fifth defender in Jon Otsemobor – with right-back Lewis Buxton switching to a holding role.

The strategy so nearly paid off but a penalty – for Chris Sedgwick’s foul on Gary Taylor-Fletcher – allowed Phillips to equalise in stoppage time.

Alan Smith has joined MK Dons on loan from Newcastle for the rest of the season.

The 31-year-old former Leeds United midfielder has made just two substitute appearances for the Magpies this season.

Newcastle confirmed in a statement that Smith would be available to make his debut when the Dons face Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night.

FA Cup Leicester City 2-0 Swindon Town

Kevin Phillips scored a stoppage-time penalty to earn Blackpool an FA Cup fourth-round replay.

Clinton Morrison, one of eight changes to the Sheffield Wednesday side, put them ahead against the run of play with an exquisite chip.

Blackpool had the best of the chances but Robert Harris and Phillips missed clear opportunities.

However, Gary Taylor-Fletcher was hauled down by Danny Batth and Phillips fired home from the spot late on.

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway, who also made eight changes, went on the attack from the off with the backing of their biggest crowd of the season.

In an entertaining first half full-back Harris twice tried his luck from distance, while Matt Phillips brought a save out of Wednesday goalkeeper Stephen Bywater with a low drive.

Phillips could have scored soon after the half-hour mark when, having cleverly engineered space, he shot inches wide.

Blackpool were made to pay for their poor finishing when Morrison gave the Owls the lead.

David Prutton's through ball found Ryan Lowe, who, in attempting to round goalkeeper Matt Gilks, found Morrison. He finished clinically from an acute angle.

The Seasiders struggled to fashion clear opportunities, but got their reward in the 91st minute, securing a replay that neither of these promotion-chasing sides will relish.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Gary Megson:

"I'm really disappointed, not surprised but disappointed. I thought that was the only way they were going to score, unless it was something special from distance.

"If it was a penalty it looked really soft, I didn't think it was. You saw from both line-ups what the competition is, we both want to go through but obviously there is an importance attached to the league fixtures, but the game was played in a proper competitive spirit.

"It was a little bit nip and tuck, we wanted to try and get the result away from home but once we did score we wanted to keep hold of what we've got.

"One of the problems with the FA Cup for teams like ourselves is each time we get through a round we have to postpone a game and we're near enough playing Tuesday, Saturday for the next few weeks."

FA Cup Millwall 1-1 Southampton

arius Henderson's late equaliser rescued a replay for Millwall in their fourth-round FA Cup tie against fellow Championship side Southampton.

Liam Feeney struck the post for Millwall in the opening minutes while Harry Kane blazed over from two yards.

Henderson forced Bartosz Bialkowski into a fine save before Rickie Lambert headed home Dan Harding's cross.

But Henderson levelled the tie in the 86th-minute when he turned to fire home from Feeney's pass.

The hosts almost got off to a flying start when Feeney fired goalwards from 10 yards but his shot rattled Bialkowski's upright.

Saints failed to heed the warning and were almost undone in the ninth minute when James Henry's searching corner found Kane at the far post and he lifted his shot over from close range.

A combination of Aaron Martin's dogged defending and a smart stop from Bialkowski denied the in-form Henderson moments later as he tried to steer home a long-range effort.

Lambert, returning from a three-game suspension, then lifted a a 25-yard free-kick narrowly over the bar as the visitors started to get a foothold in the game following a slow start.

They made their increasing dominance count with a brilliantly-crafted opening goal in the 30th minute.

Ben Reeves played in Harding down the wing and his flighted cross was headed in by Lambert for his 18th of the season.

Having failed to make their promising start in the first half pay dividends, Millwall looked to get on the front foot early in the second.

Liam Trotter advanced unopposed before unleashing a powerful strike from just inside the area but Bialkowski was equal to the challenge.

Southampton had a chance to put the result beyond doubt when a swift counter-attack found Lee Holmes in space with the option to square it for Lambert but he opted to shoot and then headed wide from Lambert's follow-up.

They were made to pay when Henderson collected Feeney's pass and held off two defenders before turning to fire in the equaliser with four minutes left, making it his seventh goal in as many matches against Southampton.

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett: "Darius is on a very good run and it was a good finish from him for the goal - he put in a good performance and was a real threat for us.

"But we didn't do enough off of him, we didn't quite capitalise enough on his skills although I didn't think we deserved to get beaten.

"We had the better of the play up until their goal but then after it we were staring at a potential defeat and going out of the cup.

"The potential for us to get through is a big thing and it's a big thing financially as well. We haven't come back often enough this season and I'm pleased to say we fought back.

"The team has spirit and at times play some quality football but this game was almost indicative of our season. We had a lot of the ball but couldn't put it away."

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins: "I thought it was a real good cup tie and we look forward to the replay at our place.

"A draw was probably a good result in the end.

"There were waves of pressure coming in from Millwall but I thought Rickie Lambert scored a great goal, it was a great run and he was waiting for the space to open.

"We have missed him the last three games and there were other massive positives for us. Lee Barnard has been out for a hell of a long time and he played an hour.

"Jason Puncheon has rejoined us and worked very hard for 75 minutes before we replaced him with Luke Shaw - a 16-year-old from our youth team.

"We gave our younger players a chance and we have players who have been out injured for a long time who are close to coming back to fitness.

"We are high in the league but you always want to do well in the FA Cup."

FA Cup Leicester City 2-0 Swindon Town

SWINDON’S fine FA Cup run was brought to an end today as a goal in either half for Jermaine Beckford sealed a 2-0 win for Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Beckford opened the scoring after four minutes before ending the game as a contest with a second eight minutes into the second half

Town had their chances, most notably through Alan Connell and Alessandro Cibocchi, but it was not to be their day and in the end they exit the competition with their heads held high.

Here are the key moments from today’s game.

4 mins (GOAL, Beckford 1-0): The home side score with their first real effort on goal as Leicester regain possession after a corner is cleared and the ball is put back into the area where Matt Mills finds Jermaine Beckford and the striker makes no mistake from eight yards out.

19 mins: Few chances of note for Town during the opening exchanges but a good spell of possession ends with Simon Ferry looping a shot from the edge of the area just over the bar.

22 mins: The visitors go closer just three minutes later though, when Alan Connell headed goalwards from Matt Ritchie’s free kick, but the effort was straight at Kasper Schmeichel.

30 mins: Town are enjoying a good spell of possession and Connell sees a shot pushed onto the bar by Schmeichel as Paolo Di Canio’s men press for an equaliser.

40 mins: Great chance for Swindon when Oliver Risser’s clever ball finds Alessandro Cibocchi and the defender delivers a low cross into the area where Connell fails to connect to properly before Matt Ritchie’s pounces on the loose ball, but his shot is deflected for a corner.

45 mins: Cibocchi sees a fine free kick pushed over the bar by Schmeichel shortly after Simon Ferry was scythed down by Paul Konchesky.

53 mins (GOAL, Beckford 2-0): Town very unfortunate to find themselves two-goals down when Paul Caddis can only clear David Nugent’s shot straight to Beckford, and the in-form striker rifles home.

66 mins: The home side almost have a third when Neil Danns receives the ball around 25 yards from goal and the midfielder drills an effort that is inches wide of the upright.

Town (4-4-2): Wes Foderingham; Paul Caddis, Joe Devera, Alan McCormack, Alessandro Cibocchi; Matt Ritchie, Simon Ferry (Louis Thompson, 81), Oliver Risser, Raffa De Vita (Lander Gabilondo, 54); Paul Benson, Alan Connell (Ronan Murray, 61).

FA CUP Queens Park Rangers 0 - 1 Chelsea

FA Cup Liverpool 2 - 1 Manchester United

FA Cup Watford 0 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur

Watford: Loach, Hodson, Nosworthy, Mariappa, Doyley, Eustace, Bauden, Deeney, Murray (Yeates, 67´), Garner (Whichelow, 80´), Sordell. Entrenador: Sean Dyche.

Tottenham: Cudicini, Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Rose, Livermore, Parker, Modric (Lennon, 46´), Van Der Vaart, Defoe (Pienaar, 80´), Adebayor (Pavlyuchenko, 90+2´). Entrenador: Harry Redknapp.

Estadio: Vicarage Road Stadium.

Árbitro: C. Foy. Amonesto a Hodson (89´).

Goles: 0-1 Van Der Vaart (42´)

Liverpool recibe mañana a M. United

Además, Tottenham visita a Watford y Everton recibe a Fulham, ambos hoy.

Mañana jugarán Blackpool-Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton-Swansea, Brighton-Newcastle, Derby-Stoke, Hull-Crawley, Leicester-Swindon, Millwall-Southampton, Sheffield United-Birmingham, Stevenage-Notts County y West Bromwich Albion-Norwich.

Carlos Tevez. Pierde millones

Carling Cup Liverpool 2 - 2 Manchester City

Everton 1 - 1 Blackburn Rovers

Not the atmosphere you generally want to create at your home ground, but that's what happens when you win just three of your first eleven home fixtures. I think at this point we can say with confidence that the home form of the Toffees has gone from a nagging worry to a full-blown crisis. Consider these results: lost to QPR, drew with Villa, lost to Stoke, drew with Norwich, lost to Bolton, drew with Blackburn. That's 15 points dropped right there, and that's simply not good enough for a team that has prided itself on making Goodison Park a fortress in past seasons. If Everton had recouped just 10 of those points, they would be tied for fifth place. That is astounding to me.

More on the match with Rovers after the jump...

Game thoughts...
- TIM CAHILL KICKED A FOOTBALL AND IT RESULTED IN EVERTON SCORING A GOAL!

- And I couldn't feel happier for the guy. Of course, it still doesn't change my opinion that it's probably nearing the time for Cahill to move on from the club, but for one moment it was just like old times for Everton: Cahill lashing the ball into the net from close range, the Australian celebrating at the corner flag in trademark fashion, and the Blues taking a 1-0 first-half lead against an inferior opponent at home. I also loved how you could see the support of his teammates and how much it meant to all of them. In a season lacking in memorable goals, that one brought a smile to my face.

- While I think that Victor Anichebe has the ability to play out wide in a pinch, when there are actually alternatives on the bench I think there's no need to force the issue. Magaye Gueye and Royston Drenthe both could have started, and Drenthe did much better than Victor after he was brought on early in the second half.

- I will admit though that Drenthe consistently seems to have better energy and more of an effect on the game when he's brought on as a substitute. Yeah, you could probably say that about most any player, but Drenthe in particular seems to have that extra burst when he's introduced later in the match. Ideally, you would have a strong enough team to utilize Drenthe as a super-sub talisman, but with the squad depth we have he's going to be pushed into the starting eleven more and more.

- I really don't know where to begin in analyzing Blackburn's goal. I suppose the blame has to fall on Tim Howard for his inability to make the catch, but really I thought that it was a pretty fluky goal and that Tim Cahill was quite unlucky to fire his clearance right into the path of the oncoming David Goodwillie. Also, there was a question of whether Howard was fouled by a leaping Steven N'Zonzi, so overall I really don't have too many complaints about the defending.

- What I am going to complain about, however, is the total lack of urgency Everton showed after going 1-0 up. Really, the entire game gave off the aura of a leisurely morning stroll more so than a Premier League football match. Blackburn came to play a strong, positive game I thought, and Everton just weren't up to the challenge of matching their willpower and hunger. The Blues were awfully fortunate to make it to the break a goal up, but it seemed like they failed to realize that and were unable push the tempo in the second half. Unfortunately, it's become a worrying trend this season: Everton allowing the opponent to dictate how the match is played, rather than forcing the opponent to conform to their game plan

- With all of that being said, Everton could have snatched all three points at the end, but a frantic series of goal-line clearances (and a few saves from Paul Robinson) ensured Blackburn would go home with the point they deserved.

Player Ratings

T. Howard - Even though he probably should have done better on the goal, he still had a good game in my book with a crucial early save and some brilliant distribution. 7
P. Neville - Solid as usual when he plays right back. Even came close to netting a rare goal. 6
S. Duffy - Really enjoying watching this kid play. He'll make his mistakes, but he's still learning and looks Premier League worthy already. Also struck the crossbar from a Baines free kick. 8
J. Heitinga - No complaints, did just fine. 6
L. Baines - Certainly played well enough. It's a mark of his greatness that a performance like today's could be seen as a slight disappointment. 7
L. Donovan - Had a weird day; sometimes he looked like the best player on the pitch, but he also made several silly mistakes with the ball. 6
D. Gibson (Stracqualursi 86) - Had another steady game for the most part. 6
M. Fellaini - Sure, he probably handled the ball to allow Cahill to tally, but it was subtle enough that he got away with it and he was unlucky not to score himself later on. Finally getting forward more. 8
V. Anichebe (Vellios 79) - Just didn't look up for it today. Should have been subbed earlier. 5
T. Cahill - Should go without saying that he had his best game in ages, and the goal seemed to galvanize him. 7
L. Saha (Drenthe 53) - The usual disclaimer about his lack of service, but he was soooooo quiet today you barely knew he was there. 4

R. Drenthe (substitute 53) - Ran at defenders and at the least offered more than Anichebe in the attacking half. 6
A. Vellios (substitute 79) - Failed to have much of an impact on the game. 5
D. Stracqualursi (substitute 86) - Did well in very limited action, winning a few aerial challenges. 6

Fulham 5 - 2 Newcastle United
