FA Cup Everton 2 - 0 Blackpool
El Everton no dio opción a sorpresas y derrotó al Blackpool con dos goles marcados en los primeros diez minutos. El ex madridista Royston Drenthe adealntó a los ‘Toffees’ a los dos minutos, este es el tercer gol que marca el veloz holandés en esta temporada, quien fue el mejor jugador del partido. La eliminatoria la sentenció el Everton cinco minutos más tarde cuando Stracqualursi puso el definitivo 2-0. El Blackpool intentó reaccionar pero el Everton hizo un partido muy serio y apenas se dejó sorprender.

FA Cup Blackpool 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday
STILL in the hat, granted, but do Sheffield Wednesday really need to chase a place in the FA Cup final?
According to Clinton Morrison, the Owls already have 19 ‘cup finals’ to play between now and the end of the season.
Win every one of those league games and the Owls will be guaranteed automatic promotion to the Championship.
So while it was good to see the team in yesterday’s fifth-round draw, tomorrow’s League One trip to fifth-placed Milton Keynes Dons remains far more important.
Morrison, who was loaned out to the Dons earlier this season, made a rare start against Blackpool as manager Gary Megson rested a number of players.
The striker celebrated his return to the side with a goal that so nearly secured victory for Owls but Kevin Phillips earned a replay with a stoppage-time equaliser from the penalty spot for Blackpool.
“You don’t really want a replay but the FA Cup is a big cup,” he said.
“If we can get through and get a massive team (Wednesday will face Premier League Everton at Goodison Park if they win the replay) it would be good for some of our young players who have never played against a Premiership team.
“It would be a good experience and all the fans still love the FA Cup and deserve it.
“But there are 19 league games to go and they are all cup finals. We can’t slip up and Tuesday’s game is massive for us.”
Now approaching his 33rd birthday, Morrison has never been a player to settle for a place on the bench whether at Coventry City, Birmingham City or on the international stage with the Republic of Ireland.
These days, however, he accepts that he may have to be a support act for the Owls – and is not about to complain.
“Ask any player, they would like to have a bigger role, but the team is doing well at the moment so I don’t expect the manager to change the team,” he said.
“Against Blackpool, I just wanted to say ‘Don’t forget that Clinton is still around.’ I am here to work hard and if I don’t play all the time, so be it.”
Chris O’Grady and Gary Madine both sat on the bench at Bloomfield Road but are now widely regarded as first choices in Wednesday’s attack.
Morrison and Ryan Lowe will keep both men on their toes.
“I’ve done a lot of growing up over the last few months even though I should probably have grown up before,” reflected Morrison.
“It opened my eyes (on loan at Milton Keynes Dons). When you go away and play at another club, you realise how big Sheffield Wednesday is and what the club can be.
“A lot of people thought, when I went on loan, that I didn’t want to be here anymore but I never said that.
“I like it at this club, I’m enjoying my time here, and I want to get a promotion on my CV.
“I am experienced enough now to know that I can still make an impact and help the younger lads coming though like ‘Gaz’ and Chris. They are two young strikers and I have been there.
“I think there have been a few clubs enquiring about me but I think the manager has said he wants to keep me and I am not looking to go.”
Blackpool dominated the early exchanges at Bloomfield Road and Stephen Bywater’s flying save kept out a header from captain Keith Southern.
But the Owls produced some neat football as the first half wore on with Chris Lines and Chris Sedgwick catching the eye.
What they did with the ball may have been simple but it was precise and their passing showed great awareness of other players’ movement.
Striker Ryan Lowe, who had gone close earlier in the game, should probably have scored just before the break but his attempted lob was beaten down by Blackpool goalkeeper Matthew Gilks.
Both sides had made wholesale changes in order to have players fresh for league games tomorrow.
The game was still played in a competitive manner, however, and was watched by Blackpool’s biggest gate of the season.
Former Sheffield United loanees Billy Clarke and Matt Phillips linked up with Kevin Phillips in a three-man attack for Blackpool but were nowhere near their best.
However, the pair still carved out one great opportunity that brought a world class save from Bywater.
The Owls took the lead after 52 minutes thanks to a moment of opportunism from striker Morrison.
Goalkeeper Gilks raced off his line to block at the feet of Lowe but pushed the ball out wide to Morrison.
He curled a superb first time shot over both Gilks and a Blackpool defender before celebrating in style with the Wednesday supporters.
Megson’s reaction to the goal was to remove striker Lowe and send on a fifth defender in Jon Otsemobor – with right-back Lewis Buxton switching to a holding role.
The strategy so nearly paid off but a penalty – for Chris Sedgwick’s foul on Gary Taylor-Fletcher – allowed Phillips to equalise in stoppage time.
Alan Smith has joined MK Dons on loan from Newcastle for the rest of the season.
The 31-year-old former Leeds United midfielder has made just two substitute appearances for the Magpies this season.
Newcastle confirmed in a statement that Smith would be available to make his debut when the Dons face Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night.

Video FA CUP Fleetwood Town 1 - 5 Blackpool
Matt Phillips’ hat-trick restored a sense of natural order on the Fylde peninsula, as Blackpool delivered a slick Championship performance to swat aside this Fleetwood team, their upwardly-mobile adversaries from the Blue Square Premier.
To call the dynamic between Fleetwood and Blackpool a rivalry would be a stretch, given that the clubs had not played each other since 1980. And for an hour the home side, who have achieved five promotions in 11 years, held their own with assurance, falling behind to Lomano LuaLua’s 24th-minute strike but appearing menacing on the break. Striker Jamie Vardy, in particular, was outstanding, a constant thorn to Blackpool’s well-marshalled back line and a player sure to attract interest from higher divisions.
It was no less than Vardy’s tenacity merited when he pounced with a second-half goal, although the air had escaped from Fleetwood’s challenge by then. Phillips second deflated the 4,000-plus fans from this once thriving port town, and the self-styled ‘Cod Army’ were baited by Blackpool supporters throughout with chants of ‘You only sing when you’re fishing’.
There was a fleeting moment of alarm early for Fleetwood, when goalkeeper Scott Davies spilt a low drive from Matt Phillips. But they refused to be cowed, with one ball that struck Jamie Vardy on the shoulder looping only fractionally over the bar.
Blackpool’s breakthrough, when it came, looked effortless in its simplicity.
An elegant pass-and-move sequence, beginning in their own right-back position, culminated in a crisp ball over the top from Bob Harris, who set up LuaLua to lash a finish beyond Davies. The somersaulting celebrations that LuaLua had patented during his time at Newcastle and Portsmouth were duly unleashed with gusto.
Fleetwood had not risen from non-league oblivion to second place in the Blue Square Premier by accident, though, and fashioned some elegant play on the counter-attack. Andrew Mangan found his snap effort thwarted by the assured Mark Howard, while Vardy, ever lively, had to watch a shot on the turn saved.
Gradually, the crowd became galvanised - in large part to Micky Mellon, their irrepressible manager, who at one stage rushed on to the pitch to kick the ball back to his players before falling flat on his backside.
Ian Hollway, acclaimed as ‘Olly Mourinho’ by his own fans, was equally influential in urging Blackpool forward, and his words were heeded when Phillips, cutting in from the left, angled an exquisite strike into the far top corner of the net. When Thomas Ince engineered a third, sweeping the ball home from Neil Eardley’s cross, the outcome looked settled.
And yet Fleetwood, and Vardy, still found the resolve to register the goal their work ethic had warranted. Played in on the left, he struck a neat left-foot shot firmly to Howard’s left to elicit raptures in the Memorial Stand. The comeback was definitively punctured when Phillips let fly with a volley on the counter, before embarking on an impressive solo run to tee up the poked finish that completed his treble.

El United gana y decreta el descenso del Blackpool
Terminó la Liga Premier con el dominio de los “diablos rojos”. Ahora piensan en la final de la Liga de Campeones ante el Barcelona.
Londres-EFE.- El Manchester United cumplió su objetivo de lucirse ayer en Old Trafford, a menos de una semana para la final de la Liga de Campeones frente al Barcelona, para enviar al Blackpool, tras un 4-2, a la segunda categoría. Fue el penúltimo cotejo del portero Edwin van der Sar que se despedirá del fútbol el sábado.
El Wigan salvó la categoría gracias a un gol del colombiano Hugo Rodallega en su encuentro frente al Stoke. El Birmingham y el Blackpool acompañarán a un histórico del fútbol inglés, el West Ham, a la segunda división.
En la mente de todos estaba ayer la cita que los “diablos rojos” tienen en seis días con el campeón de la Liga española, el Barcelona, en la final en la que ambos buscarán la Copa de Europa.
Pese al gol inicial de Park Ji-Sung, el Blackpool remontó y durante algunos minutos los visitantes conservaron la ventaja y la esperanza de permanencia en Primera.
Los ánimos de los visitantes se empezaron a desvanecer entre la afición del Blackpool cuando el brasileño del Manchester Anderson igualó el marcador en el minuto 62 y el Birmingham empataba con los Spurs en el minuto 79 en White Hart Lane.

pasado.
Según un comunicado divulgado ayer por el club de Londres, su propietario, el magnate ruso Roman Abramovich, y la junta directiva tomaron esa decisión apenas unas horas después de que el Chelsea perdiera contra el Everton por 1-0 en la última jornada de la Premier League.
“Nos gustaría agradecer a Carlo su contribución y sus logros desde que tomó el cargo en julio de 2009, que incluyen el primer doblete en la historia del club. Sin embargo, las actuaciones de esta temporada han sido más bajas de lo esperado y el club siente que es momento de hacer este cambio”, explica el club en un comunicado.
La ventaja de nueve puntos que sacó el Manchester United (con 80) al Chelsea (con 71) en la clasificación final de la Liga inglesa pasó factura a Ancelotti, cuyo futuro se encontraba en entredicho desde que el
