Fabrice Muamba se retira del fútbol profesional
El centrocampista del Bolton Fabrice Muamba, de 24 años, anunció hoy su decisión de retirarse del fútbol profesional después del colapso que sufrió en marzo, según informó el equipo inglés a través de su página web.
El pasado 17 de marzo, el futbolista sufrió un paro cardíaco durante un encuentro de la Copa de Inglaterra contra el Tottenham Hotspur y estuvo clínicamente muerto durante 78 minutos.
A pesar de que el propio Muamba describió su recuperación como "más que un milagro", tras un mes ingresado, y el entrenador del Bolton no descartó que pudiera volver a jugar "al máximo nivel", el centrocampista reconoció hoy que se ve forzado a abandonar el fútbol.
"Aunque la noticia es devastadora, tengo mucho que agradecer", afirmó el jugador congolés, de nacionalidad británica, en declaraciones en la página web del Bolton.
"Desde que sufrí el ataque al corazón y recibí el alta del hospital, me he sentido optimista y he creído que algún día podría retomar mi carrera y volver a jugar para el Bolton Wanderers", confesó el futbolista.
Sin embargo, tras una revisión médica en Bélgica la semana pasada, Muamba no recibió buenas noticias por parte del cardiólogo.
"Las noticias que me dieron no fueron las que yo esperaba, por lo que ahora anuncio mi retirada del fútbol profesional", añadió el centrocampista, que agradeció todo el apoyo recibido por parte de los seguidores del Bolton, sus familiares y amigos.
"El fútbol ha sido mi vida desde que era un adolescente y me ha concedido muchas oportunidades. Por encima de todo, amo este deporte y me considero afortunado por haber podido jugar al más alto nivel", agregó Muamba, residente en el Reino Unido desde los once años, cuando su familia recibió asilo político en el país.
El jugador inició su carrera en la cantera del Arsenal en 2002 y cuatro años después se unió a la plantilla del Birmingham City, hasta que en 2008 fue fichado por el Bolton Wanderers a cambio de cinco millones de libras (6,3 millones de euros).
Con este equipo fue con el que Muamba debutó en la Premier League inglesa, que ahora se ve obligado a abandonar.
Según el presidente del Bolton, Phil Gartside, la retirada de Muamba es una "gran decepción", pero debe seguir las recomendaciones médicas.
Tras expresar su apoyo al jugador y su familia, el técnico del Bolton, Owen Coyle, aseguró que Muamba se siente "terriblemente contrariado" pero es "una persona fuerte y luchadora".

Video Stoke City 2 - 2 Bolton Wanderers
Bolton no tendrá equipo en Premier League la siguiente temporada. Un temporada irregular tras un inicio desastroso ha acabado lastrando al equipo de Owen Coyle al que le valía vencer en el Britannia Stadium esta tarde y esperar que el City ganara al QPR para salvarse. No cumplió su parte y perdieron la categoría.
Y es que, la Premier League 2011/2012 ha sido una campaña para olvidar para los trotters. Fueron colistas de la Premier gran parte de la primera vuelta y estuvieron a punto de perder a un jugador en el terreno de juego, Fabrice Muamba, desplomado en pleno partido contra el Tottenham. Hoy han sido incapaz de vencer en el Britannia Stadium, uno de los campos más difíciles de la liga, pero sin jugarse nada el Stoke City.
Eso sí, los de Coyle estuvieron salvados gran parte de la jornada, pues iban venciendo 1-2 hasta que Walters anotó de penalty a poco para el final. No obstante, lo que estaba siendo la enorme sorpresa de la Liga, la momentánea victoria del QPR en el Etihad, hundía al Bolton de cualquiera de las maneras, pero el gol de Kun en el 95 que conllevó la remontada del City, hubiese provocado que un gol de los Wanderers los salvase.
Nada más comenzar el partido vinieron malas noticias para el Bolton en su particular jornada aciaga. Walters, haciendo falta al meta húngaro Adam Bogdan, cabeceo a la red el balón, así como el cuerpo del meta del Bolton. Era el 1-0 y el irlandés no celebrara su tanto, pues sabía que hundía al equipo contrario. Pudo empatar Martin Petrov tan solo un minuto después, pero su fuerte disparo fue parada por Sorensen.
Jonathan Walters perdonó el segundo tanto de su cuenta y el que también hubiese seguido el segundo del encuentro. Un remate potente desde las inmediaciones del área se marchó desviado por muy poquito. La primera ocasión clara de los visitantes llegó en el minuto 31 por partido doble. Primero K. Davies, y luego Ivan Klasnic pudieron batir a Sorensen, pero el meta danés estuvo más acertado que ellos.
SIn embargo, la suerte en las ocasiones estaba hoy de parte del Bolton, aunque ni con este factor tan importante en su haber pudo conseguir la victoria el Bolton. Huth golpea la bola de forma violento para despejar la pelota de su área y el esférico choca contra la rodilla de Mark Davies, con la fortuna de que la pelota se dirigió rumbo a la meta del Stoke batiendo a Sorensen. Era el 1-1.
No contento con esto, la fortuna le volvió a sonreír descaradamente a los de Coyle. Un centro desde la banda de K. Davies se dirigió a la portería y entró por la escuadra, sin que el meta danés pudiese hacerse con la bola. Era el 1-2, y el QPR perdía en el Etihad. Estaban salvados.
La segunda parte fue un manojo de nervios en el bando del Bolton. Ivan Klasnic pudo sentenciar el partido en el minuto 52 pero su disparo se marchó fuera. Coyle se echaba las manos a la cabeza, pues el QPR acababa de empatar.
En el minuto 75, la jugada de la desgracia. Bogdan derriba a Crouch en el área y el colegiado pita penalti. Lo marcó Walters con un fuerte disparo. De nuevo había que marcar y esperar a que el QPR perdiese, e iba ganando en Manchester.
El equipo se fue desgastando física y mentalmente y apenas podían crear peligro. Solo Martin Petrov conseguía llegar a la meta del Stoke, pero con disparos que no conseguían inquietar demasiado a Sorensen. El último de ellos en el minuto 92. De este modo concluyó el partido. El Bolton se iba a la Champions independientemente del resultado del Etihad. Triste final para los Wanderers.

James Morrison came off the bench to score a last-minute equaliser as West Brom put a severe dent in Bolton's chances of avoiding relegation.
Morrison arrived at the far post to volley in Simon Cox's cross as the visitors fought back from 2-0 down.
Martin Petrov had put Bolton in front from the penalty spot.
A Billy Jones own goal doubled Wanderers' lead, but they were stunned as Chris Brunt lashed home before Morrison completed West Brom's rally.
QPR's late winner against Stoke capped a devastating finale for Owen Coyle's men, who must now beat the Potters at the Britannia Stadium next Sunday to stand any chance of staying up.

Video Bolton 1 - 4 Tottenham
Two goals from Emmanuel Adebayor sent Tottenham on their way to their first away victory of the calendar year as they ran out 4-1 winners against Bolton.
Nigel Reo-Coker had cancelled out Luca Modric’s first-half stunner shortly after the break, but two goals in quick succession from Van Der Vaart and Adebayor put the visitors in control before the Togolese striker added a second after good work from Gareth Bale.
Both sides were unchanged from their previous Premier League encounters, with Bolton opting for the same XI which earned a point at the Stadium of Light last time around.
Spurs, meanwhile, were looking to secure back-to-back league wins for the first time since January, following their 2-0 success over struggling Blackburn at the weekend.
The highlight of the evening was the emotional return of Fabrice Muamba, who walked out onto the pitch to an incredible reception from both sets of fans, just 41 days after he suffered cardiac arrest in the FA Cup match between the sides at White Hart Lane.
MAKING A POINT
12/5 Tottenham and Aston Villa are 12/5 to draw their match on Sunday.
The game began at a decent tempo although neither side was able to make much headway in the final third. Spurs carved out the first opportunity when Younes Kaboul’s glancing header narrowly avoided Sandro at the far post.
Adam Bogdan was then called into action with a great double save, denying Gareth Bale from distance before blocking Van Der Vaart’s effort on the rebound at the near post.
Aaron Lennon looked a threat throughout the first half, and he came close shortly before the half-hour mark after playing a neat one-two with Adebayor, but his effort was deflected over the crossbar by Mark Davies.
Spurs began to take control of possession but were struggling to break through a stubborn home defence. Bale carved out an opportunity as skipped beyond Wheater to the byline, but his cut-back fizzed across goal with no-one in a black shirt there to meet it.
Brad Friedel was finally called into action with 35 minutes on the clock. Martin Petrov got away from Kyle Walker, his cross evaded Kevin Davies but Chris Eagles turned it back to N’Gog who was denied from point-blank range by the American.
Signs were encouraging for the hosts, but just a few minutes later, Spurs went in front in sumptuous style.
Van Der Vaart was denied by Bogdan from close range and the ball was cleared for a corner. From the resulting set-piece, the Dutchman picked out Luka Modric on the edge of the area, who chested the ball down before unleashing an unstoppable half-volley into the top corner.
Owen Coyle was furious that the corner had been awarded in the first place after Sandro appeared to handle the ball following Bogdan’s save from Van Der Vaart, but the quality of Modric’s finish could not be called into question.
Bolton then had a penalty shout waved away after William Gallas appeared to handle the ball when challenging N’Gog on the edge of the area, before Boyatta wasted his side’s best chance of the half in the final minute of stoppage time as he lashed over from close range despite the time and space afforded by
Spurs’ defenders.
The hosts were in desperate need of a reaction after half-time and, with just five minutes on the clock, they found themselves on level terms.
Kevin Davies flicked a header on to N’Gog, who back-heeled the ball brilliantly into the path of Nigel Reo-Coker who rifled past Friedel from 12 yards.
The Trotters seemed completely rejuvenated, and dominated the opening exchanges of the half. Eagles came within a whisker of making their pressure pay, firing the ball inches over Friedel’s bar following another Boyatta throw-in.
Just when another goal for the hosts seemed inevitable, they found themselves behind after a slick counter-attack from Spurs.
Bale surged down the left flank and pulled the ball across to the arriving Van Der Vaart, who swept home across Bogdan’s goal into the bottom corner to silence the home fans.
And just two minutes later, Harry Redknapp’s side doubled their advantage: Modric found Lennon to the right of the penalty area, who raced past Ricketts before squaring the ball for Adebayor to tap home.

Both sides were unchanged from their previous Premier League encounters, with Bolton opting for the same XI which earned a point at the Stadium of Light last time around.
Spurs, meanwhile, were looking to secure back-to-back league wins for the first time since January, following their 2-0 success over struggling Blackburn at the weekend.
The highlight of the evening was the emotional return of Fabrice Muamba, who walked out onto the pitch to an incredible reception from both sets of fans, just 41 days after he suffered cardiac arrest in the FA Cup match between the sides at White Hart Lane.

The game began at a decent tempo although neither side was able to make much headway in the final third. Spurs carved out the first opportunity when Younes Kaboul’s glancing header narrowly avoided Sandro at the far post.
Adam Bogdan was then called into action with a great double save, denying Gareth Bale from distance before blocking Van Der Vaart’s effort on the rebound at the near post.
Aaron Lennon looked a threat throughout the first half, and he came close shortly before the half-hour mark after playing a neat one-two with Adebayor, but his effort was deflected over the crossbar by Mark Davies.
Spurs began to take control of possession but were struggling to break through a stubborn home defence. Bale carved out an opportunity as skipped beyond Wheater to the byline, but his cut-back fizzed across goal with no-one in a black shirt there to meet it.
Brad Friedel was finally called into action with 35 minutes on the clock. Martin Petrov got away from Kyle Walker, his cross evaded Kevin Davies but Chris Eagles turned it back to N’Gog who was denied from point-blank range by the American.
Signs were encouraging for the hosts, but just a few minutes later, Spurs went in front in sumptuous style.
Van Der Vaart was denied by Bogdan from close range and the ball was cleared for a corner. From the resulting set-piece, the Dutchman picked out Luka Modric on the edge of the area, who chested the ball down before unleashing an unstoppable half-volley into the top corner.
Owen Coyle was furious that the corner had been awarded in the first place after Sandro appeared to handle the ball following Bogdan’s save from Van Der Vaart, but the quality of Modric’s finish could not be called into question.
Bolton then had a penalty shout waved away after William Gallas appeared to handle the ball when challenging N’Gog on the edge of the area, before Boyatta wasted his side’s best chance of the half in the final minute of stoppage time as he lashed over from close range despite the time and space afforded by
Spurs’ defenders.
The hosts were in desperate need of a reaction after half-time and, with just five minutes on the clock, they found themselves on level terms.
Kevin Davies flicked a header on to N’Gog, who back-heeled the ball brilliantly into the path of Nigel Reo-Coker who rifled past Friedel from 12 yards.
The Trotters seemed completely rejuvenated, and dominated the opening exchanges of the half. Eagles came within a whisker of making their pressure pay, firing the ball inches over Friedel’s bar following another Boyatta throw-in.
Just when another goal for the hosts seemed inevitable, they found themselves behind after a slick counter-attack from Spurs.
Bale surged down the left flank and pulled the ball across to the arriving Van Der Vaart, who swept home across Bogdan’s goal into the bottom corner to silence the home fans.
And just two minutes later, Harry Redknapp’s side doubled their advantage: Modric found Lennon to the right of the penalty area, who raced past Ricketts before squaring the ball for Adebayor to tap home.

Muamba dice que su recuperación ha sido "más que un milagro"
El jugador del Bolton Fabrice Muamba, que el pasado 21 de marzo sufrió un paro cardíaco durante un encuentro de la liga inglesa frente al Tottenham, señaló hoy que su recuperación ha sido "más que un milagro".
"Durante 78 minutos estuve muerto y lo previsible, incluso si vivía, era que sufriera daño cerebral", afirmó al diario "The Sun" el futbolista de origen congoleño, que el pasado lunes fue dado de alta del Chest Hospital de Londres, donde permaneció varias semanas ingresado.
Muamba, que permaneció tres días inconsciente tras desplomarse sobre el césped de White Hart Lane, narró cómo no sintió ninguna molestia hasta los instantes previos a perder el conocimiento.
Segundos antes de caer al suelo, el centrocampista comenzó a marearse y a "ver doble", y comenzó a pensar que "algo iba realmente mal".

A glance at the scoreline, the league table and the fixture list suggests an opportunity was missed by Bolton Wanderers. A view of the game, or even the highlights, shows it was a point gained. While they were leapfrogged by Blackburn Rovers, sit 19th in the table and may see their 11-year stay in the Premier League end in three weeks' time, the reality is they were fortunate to emerge from this game with anything.
Swansea City are in mid-table and seem to have little other than prize money and pride to play for, but they provided a reminder of their capacity to elegantly eviscerate opponents. However, after Scott Sinclair's wonderful opening goal, they lacked the clinical touch to convert the many chances they created. A combination of the woodwork, goalkeeper Adam Bogdan and right-back Gretar Steinsson denied them a deserved victory and spared Bolton a club-record 11th home defeat of the campaign.
"It could turn out to be a very valuable point," said Bolton manager Owen Coyle. Salvation may lie in a crowded programme; Bolton have five games remaining, two more than each of their immediate rivals. "Our fate, our destiny, is in our own hands and we decide what happens to Bolton Wanderers," added the Scot. "Everyone would much rather have points in the bag, but we have 15 points available and who is to say we can't go and achieve many of them?"
On this evidence, many would. Coyle said there was "an element of frustration" about the result and the way Bolton conceded. While Sinclair has excelled in Swansea's debut Premier League campaign, his goals have been confined to the Liberty Stadium. Since his play-offs final hat-trick at Wembley in May clinched promotion, he has endured a barren run on his travels. This drought was ended spectacularly, however, when Sinclair collected possession near the left touchline and, with Steinsson applying insufficient pressure, ran along the edge of the penalty area and curled an unstoppable shot past Bogdan. It was a trademark goal, so much so that Coyle had warned his charges about the winger's propensity to cut infield. "We stressed all week that every time he gets the ball in those areas, he is looking to come in on his right foot," he explained. "You can show people what is involved, but they have to take responsibility. For me, that's frustration."

The choice of Chris Eagles to operate in the slipstream of the sole striker Kevin Davies was surprising – it is a role he has rarely occupied for Wanderers – and necessitated by injuries, but it was vindicated. Bolton showed fortitude and benefited from fortune in depriving Swansea of a winner. Steinsson, culpable for Sinclair's goal, twice redeemed himself. A tremendous block denied his Iceland team-mate, Gylfi Sigurdsson, a goal, while a last-ditch, far-post interception prevented Sinclair from tapping in Danny Graham's cross.

Muamba volverá a jugar, según DT del Bolton
El técnico del Bolton, Owen Coyle, afirmó ayer que no descarta que el jugador de origen congoleño Fabrice Muamba, quien sufrió un paro cardiaco el pasado 17 de marzo, vuelva a competir al máximo nivel.
“Conociendo a Fabrice, sabiendo lo fuerte que es, no me sorprendería que volviera. Pero tenemos que entender que ahora necesita tiempo para recuperarse con su familia”, señaló Coyle.
Muamba cayó desfallecido en el minuto 41 de la primera parte del encuentro de la liga inglesa que el Bolton disputaba frente al Tottenham en White Hart Lane, y permaneció 78 minutos clínicamente muerto hasta que los médicos lograron reanimarle.

El futbolista del Bolton Fabrice Muamba dejó este lunes el hospital un mes después de haber sufrido un paro cardiaco en mitad de un partido, indicó el jugador de 24 años en un comunicado.
"Ahora ha dejado el hospital y estoy impaciente por continuar mi recuperación y pasar tiempo con mi familia", dijo el ingles de origen congoleño.
Muamba sufrió un accidente cardiaco el pasado 17 de marzo en un partido de cuartos de final de la Copa de Inglaterra contra el Tottenham, disputado en el estadio White Hart Lane en Londres.
Su corazón dejó de latir durante 78 minutos antes de que pudiera ser reanimado en el hospital. Los médicos llegaron a hablar de milagro.
"Estoy muy contento de dejar el hospital y me gustaría aprovechar esta ocasión para dar las gracias a todos los miembros del London Chest Hospital que participaron en las curas", añadió.
"Su dedicación, profesionalismo y su aptitud fueron simplemente espectaculares y siempre estaré en deuda. También quiero dar las gracias a todos los que me mandaron miles de mensajes de apoyo", añadió Muamba.

Newcastle 2 - 0 Bolton
El equipo de Jonás Gutiérrez y Fabricio Coloccini venció por 2-0 al Bolton y se ubicó, con un partido más, en la cuarta posición de la Liga. Además, el Everton goleó 4-0 al Sunderland y Tottenham fue soprendido por el Norwich que se llevó el triunfo por 2-1. Desde las 16 el Chelsea visita al Fulham. Toda la fecha 33.

Muamba sigue mejorando y ya camina en el hospital
El entrenador del Bolton, Owen Coyle, confirmó ayer que Fabrice Muamba, quien el pasado día 17 sufrió un paro cardiaco en un partido de Copa de Inglaterra, sigue su milagrosa recuperación y ya camina en el hospital.
Coyle aseguró que Muamba “camina un poco en los pasillos del hospital, pero aún sigue en la unidad de cuidados intensivos”. “Ya camina, va dando pasos y habla con esa gran sonrisa en la cara que tanto nos gusta a todos. Está mejorando”, indicó el técnico escocés.

56 días de cárcel por comentarios racistas sobre Muamba
Un estudiante británico de 21 años fue condenado a 56 días de prisión por "incitar al odio racial" con comentarios en Twitter sobre el centrocampista del Bolton Fabrice Muamba, quien el día 17 sufrió un paro cardíaco en el campo del Tottenham. Bolton Wanderers returned to action seven days after Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest with a crucial win against fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers at The Reebok Stadium.
As midfielder Muamba continues his recovery after collapsing during the abandoned FA Cup quarter-final at Tottenham, Bolton were back in Premier League business with victory courtesy of defender David Wheater's two first-half headers.
There were emotional scenes before kick-off as both sets of supporters showed their support for Muamba - and once the action started Bolton delivered the result the club craved in their fight to retain Premier League status.
Wheater headed home twice in seven minutes to give Bolton control before the interval, both goals celebrated by the chanting of Muamba's name from the home support.
Steven Nzonzi pulled a goal back for Blackburn early in the second half but, despite some anxious moments, Bolton held on to move out of the bottom three and to within two points of Steve Kean's side.

The big screens showed a video montage of the good wishes sent to Muamba from around the football world, bringing prolonged applause from both sets of supporters.
And when the teams came out, a giant mosaic was revealed with the slogan "Muamba 6" as cards were held aloft along the entire length of one side of the stadium.
A period of applause was held prior to kick-off, before - perhaps understandably in the circumstances - the match itself got off to a slow start.
The visitors felt, with some justification, that they had claims for a penalty when Junior Hoilett tumbled under the outstretched leg of Gretar Steinsson but referee Andre Marriner was not interested.
Their frustration increased when Bolton took the lead after 28 minutes as Martin Petrov's cross took a touch off a defender and Wheater arrived to head past Paul Robinson.
Yakubu, always a danger in the box, was inches away from equalising with a firm downward header from Marcus Olsson's cross before Wheater bagged an unlikely double to put the Trotters further in front.
Rovers were once again guilty of dreadful marking, Wheater left unattended as he applied another firm header to Ryo Miyaichi's corner.
The hosts were soon on the attack again after the break, David Ngog just off target from Petrov's cross - but Blackburn were back in the game after 56 minutes when Nzonzi was allowed too much time and space to head Morten Gamst Pedersen's long throw past Adam Bogdan.
