Pavel Pogrebnyak bagged a hat-trick and Clint Dempsey scored two as Wolves rolled over in Terry Connor’s second game in charge.
There was little fight from the visitors as they were battered to slip to their biggest defeat since losing 6-0 to Southampton in March 2007.

It means Wolves have now conceded 12 goals in their last three games and slip back into the Premier League drop zone on goal difference.
Michael Kightly replaced the injured Dave Edwards, who failed to recover from a knee problem, in the only change from the 2-2 draw at Newcastle.
The hosts made a solid start, buoyed by four wins from their previous five home games, and had Wolves on the back foot after seven minutes.
Ronald Zubar clattered into Dempsey – and was booked – but John Arne Riise’s free kick was blocked before Mousa Dembele’s follow up was hacked clear.
A minute later Hennessey claimed Dempsey’s scuffed effort after the midfielder again wriggled clear of Zubar.
The confident Cottagers were running the show and Christophe Berra’s last-ditch challenge denied Pogrebnyak after a sharp turn before Hennessey tipped Riise’s drive wide.
The former Liverpool left back was causing Wolves problems with his marauding runs and his deflected drive flew over after 14 minutes.
Damien Duff was the next to shoot wide in Fulham’s boisterous start with Wolves on the ropes and barely seeing the ball.
When they did attack it was from set-plays and Richard Stearman headed Jamie O’Hara’s free kick wide on 20 minutes.
It was a rare opening and Hennessey rescued Wolves after 24 minutes when he saved at Andy Johnson’s feet after Dembele and Riise carved the visitors open.
Wolves lacked cohesion but were given little chance to find momentum by Fulham’s patient and clever build up.
O’Hara fired over on 27 minutes but Fulham’s pressure finally told after 36 minutes.
Dembele’s shot took a slight deflection off Stearman for a corner and when Duff swung the ball in Pogrebnyak buried a diving header from five yards.
And the Russian doubled Fulham’s lead a minute before the break with Wolves the masters of their own downfall.
Kevin Foley’s poor pass sold Stearman short and he pushed it into the path of Pogrebnyak who swapped passes with Johnson to sweep past the exposed Hennessey.
The one-way traffic continued after the break with Johnson failing to cash in after Hennessey and Berra collided.
Fulham were in complete control and Dempsey added a third on 56 minutes with the hosts running riot.
Danny Murphy’s ball bisected the Wolves defence for Dempsey to round Hennessey and fire in.
Steven Fletcher replaced Kightly on the hour as Connor tried find a response but they fell 4-0 behind a minute later.
Johnson wriggled free on the edge of the area and when Hennessey failed to hold his shot Pogrebnyak stabbed in his hat-trick.
It was a rout and Johnson almost made it 5-0 when his dipping 20-yarder bounced off the top of the bar after 67 minutes.
Fletcher summed up Wolves’ afternoon when he slashed wildly wide on 74 minutes from Hennessey’s long clearance with the visitors looking lost.
They had been overrun and Dembele shot straight at Hennessey – before Dempsey bagged an all too easy fifth seven minutes from time.
Pogrebnyak teed up substitute Mahamadou Diarra to slip a fine pass into the American who fired high past Hennessey to complete the demolition.
